Role Outline

The Royal Albert Hall is the world’s most famous stage and an inspiring and energising place to work. The venue has played host to an unrivalled history of events since it was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, including all genres of music, circus, opera, dance, comedy, tennis, boxing, award ceremonies, film premieres and events of national significance. Hosting over 380 events in the main auditorium and more than 400 in other smaller spaces, it stands true to the vision of Prince Albert in promoting an understanding and appreciation of the Arts and Sciences.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic apprentice to join our Health and Safety Department, in which they will gain valuable Health and Safety skills and administration experience to start their career in this field, while gaining a relevant qualification.

Our small and dedicated in-house H&S team provides a professional service to all the other Hall departments as well as visitors, and our apprentice will be a key member of the team! Key elements of the job will involve maintaining accident report statistics, assisting in the investigation of accidents and incidents, giving health and safety advice, monitoring safe working, conducting risk assessments and creating action plans, and carrying out health and safety inductions. The successful candidate will also be involved with health and safety training and assisting with relevant committees.

An Apprenticeship is a job coupled with a programme of skills development designed by employers. This means that the apprentice can gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with the functional and personal skills that are required for their current and future job roles. This is accomplished by a mix of workplace learning, formal training and the opportunity to practise and embed new skills in a real working context.

In this particular role, you will be working towards the Business Administration Level 3 Standard, studying and demonstrating the skills you have learned in conjunction with your hands-on work at the Hall.  You will be supported by our external training provider (Ginger Nut Training), as well as the internal Health and Safety team to ensure the successful delivery of your apprenticeship.

A genuine interest in gaining experience in health and safety practice, and a desire to learn is essential. The successful candidate will have GCSEs (grade A-C or 5-9) in English and Maths, or complete these as Functional Skills qualifications alongside the Business Administration qualification. To be eligible, you must be aged 16 and over and be eligible to work in the UK.  Please note this apprenticeship is only open to those educated to level 2 or above (e.g. GCSE or equivalent) who have not already completed the same qualification at the same level.

If you are keen to join an inspirational workplace, committed to providing unforgettable experiences for everyone, from staff to customers alike, then this could be the role for you. Working hours will usually be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work when required. Working hours will include time for studying, as required by apprenticeship training rules. Please note, this is a fixed term contract of 18 months to reflect the Apprenticeship training programme.

The closing date for this role is 5pm on 10 July 2018.
