The Royal Albert Hall is one of the world’s most iconic entertainment venues, with an unrivalled history of world-class artists and performances. Our programme has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and we are now promoting and producing more diverse and creative events, developing further in 2019 and beyond.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head of Programming to strategically develop and produce the diverse range of programming at the Hall. This will include; in-house promoted shows both on and off the main stage, hires and lets, as well as the touring of our own shows. The Head of Programming will be responsible for overseeing the department that plan and manage these events, working with the Artistic and Commercial Director to produce a programme covering a wide range of world class performances to include; world renowned performers and up-and-coming young artists in rock/pop, ballet and classical through to festivals and regular series beyond the main stage.

We are looking for someone with a proven ability to manage and oversee the planning of first class performances, who has their finger on the pulse of the live events world and with an excellent knowledge of the entertainment industry in general. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast paced environment, leading and developing a large team to deliver exciting and fresh content to complement and enhance our existing varied programme of events. In the last year our own promoted programme has included films with live music such as Jurassic Park and Star Wars, headliners Nine Inch Nails and Guy Barker, classical artists such as Lang Lang and Bryn Terfel as well as a whole host of other performances.  The head of department will also be managing relationships with some 200 external promoters and industry partners.

This is the first time in almost 20 years that this role has been advertised and as we gear towards celebrating our 150th year in 2021 – a landmark moment in our history - this is a particularly exciting time to be joining the Hall. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working in the live events industry and be able to demonstrate experience of touring and producing large scale shows, as well as experience of developing and nurturing staff. Ideally, applicants will have a strong knowledge of classical music and will need to show experience in high level negotiation, negotiating detailed contracts and complex budgets. With clear and effective communication skills and excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, you will have strong experience of managing a team and have a good knowledge of all music genres.
