Role Outline

The Royal Albert Hall is recruiting for an enthusiastic and experienced Deputy Head of Production & Technical to join our Production & Technical department.

The Deputy Head of Production & Technical ensures world class technical delivery and operational excellence.

We are home to world-class programming in music, dance, and film, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. The Deputy Head of Production & Technical plays a leading role at one of the most vibrant cultural institutions in the world by ensuring the smooth delivery of events throughout the building, with particular responsibility for technical operations.

The role is responsible for working with the Head of Production & Technical to lead a large team of event managers, crew, audio, lighting, rigging and staging teams who deliver over 1,500 events and performances a year throughout the Royal Albert Hall.

Success in this role means motivating and inspiring the technical teams, ensuring they are integrated within the wider organisation, always prioritising high standards of customer care and service to artists, promoters and their technical support teams.

We are seeking a dynamic professional with proven experience leading and developing teams within high-profile cultural venues. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical and event management expertise, including oversight of multidisciplinary teams across audio, lighting, screens, and rigging, as well as coordination with external contractors. A solid working knowledge of lighting, PA, and AV systems is essential, alongside a keen understanding of seating and staging layouts. Proficiency in CAD drafting, design analysis, and producing working drawings is required, as is a thorough grasp of health and safety, licensing, and statutory compliance in live event environments.
